Potential Tuesday Snowfall (Update as of 12 PM on 2/16)
Extremely cold temperatures are expected into Tuesday.
On Tuesday, snow is forecast to begin at around 3 AM in Connecticut and spread east-northeast through mid-morning. Snow is likely to impact the Tuesday morning commute with low visibility and slippery road conditions, and may continue through the evening commute in eastern Massachusetts but will be tapering off. Snowfall totals are forecast to be a widespread 2-4” ac...ross most of Massachusetts, with 4-6” in the southeastern part of the state and up to 6-8” on Cape Cod and Nantucket.

More snow on its way !!
While you are out clearing paths in the snow don’t forget to make a path for your oil or gas man. Clear access to your fuel tanks is important for easy accessibility and safety

It’s easy to remember to shovel the walkways, the driveway, and the steps. But sometimes we forget those very important vents for the hot water, furnace, and the dryer. If the vent is buried in snow the whole system can shut down, resulting in no hot water or the heat to go off. No heat during a New England winter, especially if no one’s home, can be a bad thing. Make sure the vent is completely cleared. If it’s only partly cleared it’s only partly working and costing you more money by using more energy to get the job done.
Before you go back inside to get warmed up, go around the house and check on the vents!

During Cold Weather, Take Preventative Action

• Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.
• Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children.
• When the weather is very cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe - even at a trickle - helps prevent pipes from freezing.
• Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night. By temporarily suspending the use of lower nighttime temperatures, you may incur a higher heating bill, but you can prevent a much more costly repair job if pipes freeze and burst.
• If you will be going away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home, set to a temperature no lower than 55° F.
